I prefer to start with movies sometimes, then move to books. Movies give context in a way that books cannot. Here are the movies I recommend watching to better understand the science and potential of grounding.
The “grounding” I’m talking about in this article is the term for what happens to the human body when you connect it to the surface of the Earth – such as by touching the ground with your bare hands or feet. Grounding is also sometimes called Earthing, although that term is a registered trademark of the company Earthing, and is only used by them in association with their products.
There are two full-length films that have been made about grounding. Plus a short film.
Each movie offers something unique to help you learn more about grounding:
- what grounding is,
- how ground works,
- how grounding can help you, and
- how to actually do grounding.
Start with: DOWN TO EARTH – A SHORT FILM
During the filming for The Earthing Movie (see more on that film below) the filmmakers first made a 15-minute short film. That short film is called Down to Earth and it’s an excellent way to get started understanding what grounding is, the history of how grounding was “uncovered”, and some of the benefits of grounding.
I personally love this film. It does such a good job explaining the essence of grounding. I’ve watched it over a hundred times and recommend it to everyone I talk with about this magical thing we call grounding.
The Most Recent Full-Length Film On This Topic: THE EARTHING MOVIE
The Earthing Movie is the most recent film made about grounding. Released in 2019, the filmmakers are Rebecca and Josh Tickell from Big Picture Ranch. They are master documentary film makers. If you enjoy The Earthing Movie then you may find you enjoy other films they’ve made. Visit their website for the full list.
How to Watch the Film The Earthing Movie
You can watch the film for free and learn more about it by visiting this page on the Earthing.com website.
Another way to watch it on Amazon Prime or Netflix if you have a membership for either. Links for both are available on the film’s page on the Big Picture Ranch website.
My favorite way to watch this movie is on DVD. Some people think that’s antiquated, but I have been pleasantly surprised by how much better my viewing experience is when I watch a film on DVD. Seems counter-intuitive but it’s true. As of the posting of this article I’m disappointed to report that it’s not terribly easy to find the DVD version of this film at this time. It may ship with items you order from Earthing.com (Earthing is Clint Ober’s company). I have a DVD version of the film – I’m not sure if it is still available or not.
Fun Fact About The Earthing Movie and Me
I was interviewed for this film in 2018! But the footage of me didn’t make it into the final version. It was a great learning experience to be part of a film that was being made and to better understand how filmmakers work to tell a story and communicate a film’s message. That means that some footage (a lot in fact) never ends up in the final film.
Without giving you any spoilers – – keep an eye out in this film for footage and interviews from an event for people with disabilities. You’ll see some of my friends 🙂 and hear first-hand from people who have been helped by grounding. (If you’d like to attend the event shown in the film, it’s called Abilities Expo. There are multiple Abilities Expo shows each year in North America. Visit the website to see if they are in a city near you.)
The First Full-Length Film About Grounding – THE GROUNDED
This film – The Grounded – is the first film made about grounding. The film released in 2013 and its the first movie I ever watched about grounding. It was a big influence on my early understanding of grounding as a wellness adventure. The film documents a very personal discovery and journey with grounding. It’s not as scientific as the film The Earthing Movie, in part because the understanding of grounding was still new.
It’s fun to meet the filmmaker, Steve Kroschel, and learn about his ongoing work at his website kroschelfilms.com.
How to Watch the Film The Grounded
This film is available on DVD. You can buy a copy from Intuition Physician. This is a great option because you’ll be buying small (one of The Wellness Adventure principles) – – your purchase will vote with your dollars and support a small, woman-owned, USA-based business. Plus Intuition Physician is the business and website of Dr. Laura Koniver. You’ll meet her in all the films listed above, and on her website you can both read and watch more about grounding and purchase products that help you ground while inside. Dr. Koniver is passionate about grounding as a healing modality; she presents a very grounded (pun intended), medical perspective on grounding and is very giving of her knowledge about grounding via all her work.
You can also watch this film for free online (although I highly recommend the DVD approach if you can, more on why later).
Final Thoughts on Movies About Grounding
I just want to revisit what I said at the beginning of this article.
Which is that sometimes starting with a movie or film about a topic is the best first steps you can take. Before you move on to reading books on the topic.
Movies give context in a way that books cannot.
I hope you enjoy the films about grounding and that they help you with this particular wellness adventure.
Grounding is SO simple, and yet SO effective. It’s completely free and available to everyone just about everywhere. You just need to get outside. Put your bare feet on the ground, or touch a tree with your bare hands.
It will seem like nothing is happening … but as we learn in the films … looks can be deceiving and grounding is something where looks really deceive. Studying the films will help you understand how to better measure the effectiveness of grounding.
Happy grounding! 👣🌎😊
