Books are one of my favorite sources for learning new things.
In this post you’ll find the books that are on my bookshelves. These are the books I feel most strongly about in terms of how they help me with my wellness. These are the books I turn to again, and again, and again.
Before I Give You the List Here is My Plug for Using Physical Books
I’m a fan of physical books. The kinds of books you can hold in your hand, take with you everywhere you go, read without electric light or a charged device. A physical book is a hardback or paperback copy of the book (not an eBook).
In my physical books books I can underline important concepts and write notes in the margins.
In terms of wellness, there is research supporting the following about reading physical books:
- reading a physical book is better for your eyes because of the way the light comes down on the page (versus from behind the text as in a website or eBook)
- we retain and use information better when we read it in a physical book versus via an electronic method (because of how the human vision system works)
- we read about 30% faster when reading physical books and other material
It’s not that I don’t learn from websites and social media accounts. I do. I just find that learning from physical books and other physical printed materials (think magazines, newspapers, etc) is one of the most effective ways for me to get this information into my brain.
The Book List
And here are the books. The ones I love and use often. If you are looking for places to start on your own wellness adventure, I hope these books will help guide your way.
